`Scandal-sheet' view reflected in comments
Much has been said, and even more written, about the April 19 City Council meeting and the ``proposed'' move of a polling place, killed by unanimous vote.
A city councilman (he knows who he is) extended a ``special, personal'' invitation to Ruby Walden (``Ms. Ruby'') to have a few words, and she readily accepted.
The denigrating, demeaning, non-respect of the ``African-American female'' was happening right there, as Mrs. Walden was being invited to speak. This was a ``shocking'' moment, and the alert persons present or viewing the meeting did not miss this.
It appears that since that night, Mrs. Walden has been much too busy ``bashing and slashing'' Paul Gillis to even consider what really happened to her or her dignity.
Mr. Gillis said what he said, simply to repeat the councilman's statement by ``rephrasing and rewording'' the sentence structure. The meaning and content were exactly the same. Mrs. Walden does not accept or wear criticism of any kind very well.
John Pruitt's editorials usually are seriously considered only by those individuals with a personal dislike of himself. In his eagerness to do a personal character-assassination job on Paul Gillis, he seemed to have forgotten completely that he is a news editor, not a scandal-sheet journalist.

Check out home care before you decided
Usually, your first information about home health care groups is from a hospital. Please check others before you decide which one to choose.
I recently went through a traumatic experience of being a care provider for a family member with a terminal illness. We were convinced by a home health care group (the first) to let it provide services. That created more stress than I needed at that time.
As the situation became more difficult, an oncologist suggested Home Care Services of Suffolk Inc. What a big difference this one made!
Rubie Ehlman, RN, director of administration, was excellent. Some of her attributes:
1. Provided 24-hour service
2. Returned all calls within a short period of time
3. Very understanding and compassionate
4. Took time to answer questions so that you could understand
5. Alerted me to what I might expect through each stage of the illness
6. Provided other help almost every day, plus the times she came
7. Close contact with the doctor
8. Good at listening and counseling
Her concerns did not stop after the death of the family member. She helped with preparations to make it easier on the family. Afterward, she followed up on the needs of the family.
Check out several home health care groups before you decide on one.

Sweep for charity
The Western Branch Lions Club would like to thank the public for their generous contributions during their recent White Cane Sale.
These funds are used in their territory, which includes part of Chesapeake's Western Branch and part of Northern Suffolk. The Lions supply eye exams, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and diabetic glucometers and strips to the indigent in this area. Some funds were sent to the Lions of Oklahoma for ``Oklahoma Relief,'' a project of all the Lions in Virginia. Lions helping Lions!
