NEWPORT NEWS WOMAN ACCUSED OF STABBING MAN

A Newport News woman, angered when her teenage son told her that he had been sodomized in Smithfield, is accused of stabbing a man in the back.

The mother faces one count of maiming, a felony. Calvin E. Davis, 25, of the 5000 block of Fairfax Avenue, is charged on two counts each of forcible sodomy and using a firearm during a felony.

Davis, arrested Wednesday at his home, was taken to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk.

Smithfield Police Chief Mark A. Marshall said the stabbing occurred in Newport News about 2 p.m. May 6, the same day the 14-year-old boy said he had been sodomized twice at a friend's house in Smithfield.

Marshall said the boy, who accompanied Davis to visit the friend, was held at gunpoint by Davis while Davis performed oral sex on him.

Davis, scheduled for arraignment Monday in Isle of Wight Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, could be sentenced from five years to life in prison if convicted of forcible sodomy. The weapons charges carry a penalty of three years for the first conviction, five years for a second conviction.

If convicted of maiming, the mother could face 5 to 20 years in prison and a fine up to 100,000.

Marshall said Davis was treated at Riverside Regional Medical Center for knife wounds.

Davis, a former member of the Posse street gang in Smithfield, was recently released from prison. He was sentenced to five years for robbery and assault in 1991.
