CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

CHESAPEAKE

On May 2, two men went to the home of a senior citizen in the 100 block of Red Oak Trail. They asked permission to inspect the roof and interior of the home.

After checking the residence, one of the men told the victim they needed $1,400 to fix some water damage.

Investigators have determined that the men sprayed water on the interior walls and there was actually no damage.

Both men are white males. The first man is 19 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 145 pounds, with brown hair. The second is between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair.

PORTSMOUTH

On March 21 a stolen automatic teller machine card was used at the Navy Yard Credit Union located in the 5100 block of George Washington Highway. It was used again the next day at the Central Fidelity Bank branch in the 1200 block of Frederick Boulevard.

Photographs were taken of the man using the stolen card at both locations. The suspect is described as black, appears to be in his 30s and is at least 6 feet tall.

Several churches have been broken into, with the most recent incident occurring May 3 at Green Lakes Baptist Church in the 1600 block of Hodges Ferry Road.

Sometime that night, a rear window was removed and the church was entered. The burglars broke into several rooms and took a television, a portable stereo, a telephone and an answering machine.

Other churches that have been broken into since April 18 are First Friends Church on Portsmouth Boulevard, Western United Methodist Church on Rodman Avenue, Simonsdale Presbyterian on Vick Street, Highland Baptist Church on Deep Creek Boulevard and West Side Christian Church on Cherokee Road.

Items taken have included stereos, televisions, radios and other electronic equipment.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Wednesday, April 12, at about 3 p.m., three boys - two 12-year-olds and an 11-year-old - were playing at the edge of the woods on Princess Anne Road near Providence Road.

A man grabbed one of the boys by the arm and demanded that all of them remove their clothing.

The boys escaped unharmed and ran to their homes.

Police are looking for a man described as Hispanic, about 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build, short black hair, a goatee and mustache, and long sideburns.

He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, a white bandanna with skulls printed on it and Reebok running shoes. He was riding a black beach cruiser bicycle and carrying a stick.

SUFFOLK

On May 9, someone pried open a back door and entered a home in the 300 block of Cullodan Street.

The burglar then stole an Optimus VCR, an Optimus portable entertainment system and a variety of jewelry including gold chains and rings sizes 7, 9 and 4.

HAMPTON

On Monday at 3:40 p.m., three men robbed Hauser's Jewelers in the 2100 block of Coliseum Drive.

The first man, armed with a black, semi-automatic pistol, entered the store alone and announced the robbery. Seconds later, the other two suspects came in armed with handguns.

The men smashed open a display case and stole 16 Rolex watches.

The robbers are described as black, 17 to 30 years old, with medium builds. All were wearing dark sweatsuits. ILLUSTRATION: Drawings
