A campaign to sell memberships for the 1995-96 season of Portsmouth Community Concerts will be highlighted by the annual meeting for all members at 5 p.m. June 5 at Monumental United Methodist Church social hall.
The dinner meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Stephen Kelly of the Virginia Choral Society, accompanied by Lawrence Carr, will entertain after dinner, which will cost $7 per person.
The organization's coming season will open with a performance by the Richmond Ballet Nov. 11. Members of the state ballet company also will conduct free activities for local school students on that date.
Other concerts that have been booked include: Brenda Boozer, mezzo soprano, Dec. 9; Vienna Choir Boys, Jan. 13; and the Xavier Cugat Orchestra, a 13-piece band and three dancers who will present a tribute to Carmen Miranda April 8.
Members also may use their tickets for admission to concerts in Murfreesboro, N.C., Franklin and Gloucester.
The Franklin series will include concerts by the Walter Noona Trio, Rhythm and Brass, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, Tony Sandler's ``Lullaby of Broadway'' and the Virginia Symphony.
The Gloucester season will feature the Vivaldi Orchestra of Moscow, pianist Floyd Cramer, music-comedian Dale Gonyea and ``Forever Plaid,'' an Off-Broadway musical.
In Murfreesboro, the season will include Irina Chukovsky, pianist; the Cassidys and the Cugat orchestra.
Basic memberships are $35 for adults and $17 for students. Reserved seats and family memberships also are available.
