Pauline Tavss Zfass, 103, of the 300 block of Brambleton Ave., died May 18, 1995.
Mrs. Zfass was a native of Russia. She was the widow of Samuel I. Zfass and was preceded in death by her granddaughter, the late Judi Ann Carmel. She was a member of Congregation Beth El and its sisterhood in Norfolk. Mrs. Zfass was a life member of Hadassah and Beth Sholom Home as well as a member of the Hebrew Ladies Charity Society, the Golden Age Club of the JCC, and the auxillary of Brith Sholom.
Survivors include two daughters, Ethel Carmel, and Raye Swartz both of Norfolk; three sons, Dr. Isadore S. Zfass and his wife, Edith, Dr. Hyman S. Zfass and his wife, Gaile, and Dr. Alvin M. Zfass and his wife, Marie, all of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Leah Abramson; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Tavss both of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, Sharon and Dr. Gerardo Mendez of Richmond, Arnold J. Carmel of Atlanta, Dr. Stephen Carmel and his wife, Barbara of Denver, Colo., Charles Swartz and his wife, Paula of Richmond, Susan and Dr. Perry Hookman of Potomac, Md., Jeffrey Swartz and his wife, Anne of Virginia Beach, and Adam S. Zfass of Richmond; 18 great-grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews.
A chapel service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 1995, in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg, Cantor Jacob Tessler and Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Raye Swartz, 1210 Westover Ave., Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Beth El or a charity of donor's choice.
