Franklin is in line to receive $514,378 in federal funds to install sidewalks, a historic trail, historic lighting, historic markers and signs at its Barrett's Landing project.
The Virginia Transportation Department picked the project as one of 32 statewide that were recommended to receive funds under the federal Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, which are known informally as ``Ice TEA'' grants.
The program sets aside highway funds for beautification, restoration, parks and trails in historic communities.
The board, which administers the program for the federal government, received 173 applications for such grants.
The $735,000 Franklin project is planned for land along the Blackwater River off Barrett Avenue and Main Street that is being donated by Union Camp. by CNB
