Sallie F. Connolly, 74, of the 9600 block of Chesapeake Blvd., died May 20 in DePaul Hospital.
She was born in Norfolk at Willoughby, daughter of Kathleen Wilkinson Thompson of Norfolk and Edward Murray Frost of Vermont. She graduated from the Towson High School in Maryland and attended the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. She served in the WAVES in WW II, worked in Baltimore as an interior decorator and spent much of her life in interior decoration, gardening and herbs. She worked at Colonial Williamsburg and Carter's Grove Plantation preparing Christmas and seasonal decorations. During her travels from Maine to Key West, Fla., she also worked with local garden clubs and received more than 400 awards for her arrangements.
She was a member of and active in the Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America; the Great Bridge Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Pickett-Buchanan Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy; Tidewater Silver Salts; American Legion Post 118; and the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. She served on the board and as an officer of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.
She is survived by two sons, Peter J. Wrike and his wife Louise, and Randolph F. Patterson Jr. and his wife Susan; and four grandchildren, Chris Wrike, Katie Wrike, Sarah Wrike and Thea Wrike.
A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent on Wednesday, May 24, at 2 p.m. in the parish hall. She will be interred at a later date in the Hampton National Veterans Cemetery. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
