Please give correct facts to the people. Neither of the proposed Republican budgets has the cuts you described in a recent article.
The Republican budget actually increases Medicare from $4,700 a person in 1995 to $6,300 a person in 2002. Both Medicare and Medicaid have 5.5 percent a year increases in spending over the next seven years. The other social programs also have increases in spending.
Both Republican budgets achieve a balanced budget by 2002 and the Senate's version even has a $2 billion surplus by 2002. However, President Clinton's proposed budget has a $300-billion deficit.
There are some spending cuts, which are needed. There are wasteful, duplicate programs and programs that do not need to be done by the federal government and can be done by private businesses and even the state governments.
The Republicans are trying at least to do what is right and needs to be done if our country is going to have a future for generations to come. Instead of having compassion and concern for our children, the Democrats are neglecting them, whining and abdicating their responsibility. The Democrats delivered the whacks against families with children with Clinton's tax increases, voting against balancing the budget, and not wanting families with children to have tax cuts.
Please report the truth.
