JOSEPH M. MULLEN SR.

Joseph M. Mullen Sr., 83, formerly of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Wichita and Greenbush, Kan. died in a Virginia Beach, Va., hospital after a brief illness.

Joe worked as a farmer for many years in Kansas and retired from the Boeing Co. in Wichita. He lived in Apache Junction for 20 years. Joe was active in the Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, in which he was a past Grand Knight. He and Thelma were responsible in pursuing ``Meals on Wheels'' for the Apache Junction area.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma, who lives in Marian Manor Nursing Home in Va. Beach; 2 sons Joseph M. Mullen, Jr., Virginia Beach, Va., and Carl W. Mullen, Dallas, Texas; 2 daughters, Paula Williams, Woodbridge, Va., and Patricia Hutton, Mobile, Ala.; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 half-brothers Jim Mullen, Springfield, Mo.; Robert Mullen, Manhattan, Kan.; 1 half-sister, Rose Marie Hazen, Pryor, Okla.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday May 25, 1995, 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Friday, 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall/Kempsville Chapel is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, All Saints Church, Mesa, Ariz., designating The Association for the Retarded Children.
