Walter Cliffield Barnes, 87, of 1041 Prosperity Rd., passed away Wednesday, May 24, 1995, in his residence after a brief illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Princess Anne County and Virginia Beach. He was the loving husband of Ellen Murden Barnes. For the past 44 years he had been proprietor of W. C. Barnes Grocery at the corner of Oceana Blvd. & Prosperity Rd.
In addition to his loving wife, Ellen, he leaves a daughter, Marion B. Watson of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, W. Edward Barnes and Leonard C. Barnes, both of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Ethel Riggs and Annie C. ``Bob'' Cain, both of Virginia Beach, and Evelyn ``Pete'' Murden of Norfolk; six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, May 26th, at 10 a.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park by Rev. Tommy J. Taylor. The family will receive friends in the Maestas Funeral Home Baltic Avenue Chapel tonight from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Building Fund, P. O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, 23451.
