Nancy Welch, director of the Chesapeake Health Department, has been appointed chairman of the 1995 United Way campaign in Chesapeake.
As chairman, Welch will lead a team of other volunteers who will raise more than $1 million in Chesapeake to support health and human service agencies.
Glenn Koonce, principal of Oscar F. Smith High School, and George W. Imel, Chesapeake district manager of Virginia Power, will serve as vice chairmen of the campaign.
The South Hampton Roads United Way funds 69 local health and human service agencies that provide more than 160 programs and services, such as day care centers, homeless shelters, youth programs, senior citizen centers and health care agencies.
The 1995 campaign will begin Sept. 7 with a ``Day of Caring'' event at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
