Dare County schools ranked well above the state and nation on the scores of the latest tests, the National Indicators of Mathematics Achievement. This time the measure was eighth-grade math proficiency.
Dare County students earned a score of 280, ranking the system higher than all but three states, Iowa, North Dakota and Minnesota. The North Carolina state score, 266, was right at the national average but up from 1992 performance of 258 and 1990 performance of 250.
``I'm again delighted,'' said Supt. Dr. Leon Holleman. ``These are certainly excellent scores. This is a national indicator of how our students are performing, and again, they're at the very top. Hard work and high expectations always pay off.'' by CNB
