UNDERCOVER INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN SIX ARRESTS SEVERAL OF THE PEOPLE ARRESTED WORK IN RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA.

Six people have been arrested and about 15 others are being sought as a result of an investigation into drug sales in northeastern North Carolina.

The Dare County Sheriff's Office said drugs were purchased by undercover officers from employees at the Green Dolphin Pub in Manteo and at the Froggy Dog Restaurant in Avon and at various other locations.

The arrests were made Thursday, according to Lt. Col. E.J. Williams of the sheriff's department.

Vivian Calvert, a waitress at the Green Dolphin, was arrested on several charges, including the sale and delivery of marijuana. Jeff Foster, a bartender there, is sought on similar charges, the sheriff's department said.

Sylvester Lee, a cook at the Froggy Dog, and Alisha Gray, a former employee there, have been arrested on several charges including the sale and delivery of cocaine. Jerry Harold Coffield of Frisco was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting in the sale and delivery of cocaine at the Froggy Dog.

Charles Everett McCoy of Camden, described by agents as a major supplier of crack cocaine in Dare and Currituck counties, was arrested and charged with the sale and delivery of cocaine. Officers said that 2 to 4 ounces of cocaine were found on McCoy when he was arrested. Undercover agents said they also purchased alcoholic beverages and a gun from his house.

Also arrested was Jesse Gene Jones of Powells Point. Police said he sold crack cocaine to undercover agents at his home.

The arrests resulted from Operation Response, started last October and aimed at investigating drug sales at businesses licensed to sell alcohol.

Taking part in the investigation were the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, the Elizabeth City Police Department, and the sheriffs' departments in Camden, Currituck and Dare Counties.
