GARDEN BLOSSOMS

More people are discovering a true gem in our midst. On a recent guided tour of the Bunny Morgan wildflower garden at Norfolk Botanical Garden, 40 people were present. The trains were busy. Many people meandered along the miles of paths, some pushing strollers and some in formal wedding attire. The teahouse was doing brisk business.

Quite a contrast from just a few years ago! Construction is apparent in the Baker Hall Vistitors Center, and not so apparent in the greenhouse area, all the result of the generosity of some citizens with the support of Norfolk City Hall.

Peter Frederick is in the midst of working a miracle on those 175 acres which were so dear to Fred Huette, who, no doubt, would be extremely pleased with what is taking place.

Obviously the garden is being elevated in to the world-class category. The genius of Mr. Frederick is no more apparent than in the selection of his staff, all of whom perform their designated functions with outstanding professionalism. Educational programs are increasingly attractive.

All that remains now is to find a way to make Norfolk Botanical Garden more accessible to the underprivileged, especially the youth, in order to teach them that there is beauty in this world, that they possess some of it as citizens and that they have the responsibility to help preserve it. All who can afford the cost should lend their support by joining the Norfolk Botanical Garden Society.
