On May 9, two stories were published on the same page of The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star.
The first story: ``In eight hours a young girl's life changed - forever,'' explained how Agustina Disuma displays her newly constructed face because the Operation Smile team brought her here from the Philippines to perform the free constructive surgery that made it all possible.
The second story: ``Pain lingers from 1993 hit-and-run,'' explained how Keith Long still suffers from his injuries and is being refused disability. Mr. Long, who needs long-term medical care, won't get it because he can't pay mounting medical bills.
I'm happy for Agustina Disuma, but I can't understand why the Operation Smile team finds it necessary to help people from other countries when we have so many needy people in our own country! This story and others like it about how Operation Smile makes foreigners smile is a sad situation!
