Amy Morgan, District and Regional Player of the Year, tossed a two-hitter and fanned three as York (21-1) defeated Nansemond River, 4-0, in the Region I softball championship.
The Falcons scored all four of their runs in the second inning, courtesy of four Warrior errors. Kelly Sambuchi led off the second with a triple and scored when Chrissy Mims made an overthrow on Lindsey May's sacrifice bunt, May ending up on third base. Jennifer Seeley followed with a sacrifice.
However, Mims' throw again ended up in rightfield, with May scoring and Seeley taking second.
Attempting to move Seeley to third, Regina Straight sacrificed. This time first baseman Angie Gatling committed the overthrow. The Falcons sacrificed for the fourth consecutive time. Monica Marek layed down the bunt, but the Warriors couldn't make the play, as Straight raced to the plate. by CNB
