An 18-year-old was arrested Friday in connection with a telephone bomb threat that forced an evacuation of the Municipal Building Friday morning, disrupting work for about 1 1/2 hours.
Cedric M. Dildy of the 500 block of Ashley Ave. was charged with threatening to bomb a building, police said.
He was being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail on the felony charge Friday evening in lieu of $25,000 bail.
About 11:17 a.m., a male caller told police, ``There is a bomb in the elevator.''
The fire alarm was sounded during the call and employees were told to evacuate the two-story building that houses police, Circuit Court, city administrators and various other municipal offices.
Suffolk fire and police officials sealed off a two-block radius as a state police bomb investigator searched the building and determined there was no bomb. Employees returned to work at 12:51 p.m.
Police said the suspect had called twice just before the threatening call. The first time, he said he had been beaten, and he was told how to secure a warrant.
He called back and repeated that he had been beaten, then hung up after being asked if he needed the rescue squad.
Police said that Dildy was brought to police headquarters and that he admitted making the threatening call.
