SERBS MAY HOLD DOWNED PILOT 120 U.N. HOSTAGES FREED; MORE HELD

ILLUSTRATION: PLANES IN PERIL

Whether more NATO planes are shot down depends largely on whether

Serb forces choose to fire. With Soviet-made SA-6 air-to-ground

missiles, first seen in 1967, the Serbs have the ability to hit a

plane before a pilot knows he has been fired upon.
