PLAN A TRIP across the Chesapeake Bay next Sunday for ``A Sunday Afternoon of Gardens on Virginia's Eastern Shore.'' Five gardens will be open to benefit the Eastern Shore Habitat for Humanity.
The gardens are in Northampton County, from Cape Charles to Nassawadox. Each is different, ranging in size and style from traditional estates to eclectic personal tastes.
The tour is sponsored by Farmers and Merchants Bank to benefit Habitat for Humanity, an all-volunteer organization, which receives no government assistance. The Eastern Shore Habitat has built seven houses for families that needed help, with two more houses under construction.
Route 13 will be marked with signs directing you to each garden. You can start with Virginia and George Savage's garden, nearest the end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, or drive to Fleet and Skip Davis garden at the north end of the tour and work your way back to the tunnel.
