THE SHOES of students serve dual purposes: getting them from one class to another in comfort and in style. At Cox, sneakers adorn many hurried hallway feet. The trendiest brands are Vans and Airwalks.
Vans are classic California sneakers made popular in the 1960s by the surfing community. They're trendy today with surfers and non-surfers.
Vans come in canvas, velvet and leather. Colors range from burnt orange to navy blue and plaids to pinstripes. Prices range from $40 to $70, and although they come in men's sizes, they are just as popular with girls.
Cox freshman Amber Garner has periwinkle-and-black Vans. She thinks they'll be popular ``just as long as they'll be made.''
Brekke Bull, a freshman who wears blue Vans, believes that they'll be popular forever.
Airwalks is another popular brand of sneakers. Prices are similar to Vans, but unlike Vans, they have only recently become trendy.
The shoes have a thick sole that is either smooth or deeply grooved, and the upper comes in solid and two-tone colors. MEMO: Lisa Linquist is a sophomore at Cox High. by CNB
