OPERATION SMILE'S HELP AT HOME

For the past two years, Operation Smile International has been providing some invaluable medical services to the indigent population of the city of Norfolk. Operation Smile's dental and ophthalmology services are based in the Health Department of Park Place Multi-Service Center, 606 West 29th St. The center is operated by the city of Norfolk. The triad relationship of Norfolk Health Department, Operation Smile and the Citizen Advisory Board of the center's services area has produced some excellent health results for the residents in the center's service area.

By causing patients to avoid the emergency rooms, tens of thousands of dollars have been saved. The extractions and fillings promote good health. As a result, a number of poor residents are more healthy today than those two years ago. Good health keeps people out of the hospitals and emergency room. Fewer and fewer hospital and doctor visits save the taxpayer big dollars.

Therefore, Operation Smile has been an asset to the hundreds of needy inner-city residents and to the taxpayers of Norfolk.
