Earl John Heintzelman, a retired management assistant, died June 8, 1995, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Heintzelman was born in Navarre, Ohio, and was retired from Oceana Naval Air Station. He was a lifelong member of McKee's United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (NU)5047 in Navarre and Fleet Reserve Association (NU)99. He was president of Chinese Corner Civic League from 1952-1955. In the 1930s he played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers' organization.
Survivors include his wife, Ann M. Heintzelman; a son, Kent John Heintzelman of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen.
A private funeral will be held. Friends may join the family at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from noon to 1 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
