William L. Garris, 36, of the 700 block of Leicester St., died June 5, 1995, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Garris was born in Norfolk, son of the late Ida and Willie Garris. He was a graduate of Norview High School. He was a valued employee of the City of Norfolk, having worked at Scope for 15 1/2 years. He was recognized as Employee of the Year in 1994. He was also employed at CNA Service at the Norfolk World Trade Center.
Survivors include two sisters, Diane Garris and Arlene Ricks; two brothers, Ted Garris and James Garris; and two nieces, Mable Ricks and Pat Washington, all of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives and friends, including Elston Hines of Norfolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 822 Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, by Apostle C.V. Blount. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin Sunday at 4 p.m. Metropolitan Funeral Service is in charge. The body will be placed in the church Monday at 1 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 310 W. 26th St. (NU)B, Norfolk, on Monday at 1:30 p.m. for the funeral processional to the church.
