NORFOLK TEENAGER SHOT IN HEAD AT FRIEND'S HOME

A 17-year-old was shot in the head Friday while at a friend's home in the 3400 block of West Bonner Drive, police said.

The victim was listed in critical condition Friday night at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, police said.

A 15-year-old boy from Virginia Beach was arrested in the 1200 block of Military Highway about 1:30 p.m. in connection with the shooting, police spokesman Larry Hill said. The suspect, whose name has been withheld because of his age, is to appear before a judge in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Monday morning on a charge of malicious wounding.

Hill said at least three youths were in a two-story Estabrook home when a handgun discharged once between 12:30 and 1 p.m.

``I don't own a gun. I don't know where the gun came from,'' said Sandra Kerby, 43, in whose home the shooting occurred. Her 15-year-old son said he saw the shooting.

Kerby said she was not at home when the shooting occurred in her living room. She said the group consisted of five boys ranging in age from 15 to 18. She said her son was home from school with her permission.
