It is disappointing to me and probably to many others that you would elevate the opinions of Robert McNamara on the Bosnian conflict to front-page news (June 1). Why should the opinions of this traitor be afforded such great weight? He demonstrated as secretary of Defense that he had no understanding of leadership, and the publication of his ill-conceived book shows that this deficiency is compounded by his lack of common sense and compassion.
He has denigrated the service of all military personnel who participated in the Vietnam War. Only a self-centered, uncaring person could tell those who lost loved ones in that war that they gave their lives in vain. I and many other Americans believe that the sacrifices of our service personnel in Vietnam contributed greatly to the collapse of the Soviet empire.
