Regarding ``Beach gets tough on drivers'' (May 26): Virginia Beach police have written 60 percent more tickets during the past two months. During the same period, several area fast-food restaurants have been robbed at gunpoint. In some cases employees leaving for the night were forced back inside. Meanwhile, the police were writing tickets.
My wife works at a restaurant. Each night I pick her up from work, as she is afraid when she leaves her job. Meanwhile, the police write more tickets.
When the manager of the restaurant asked for police protection for employees leaving work, she was told the police were busy. Writing tickets.
Beach police seem more concerned with writing tickets and filling city coffers than with catching criminals.
