Why has Little Creek closed its Liberty pool? Where can we swim now?

The Liberty pool has been closed for open swim, but continues operating for scheduled events such as swimming lessons, swim teams, youth center activities and child care. There are no plans to reopen it this summer.

The people at Morale, Welfare and Recreation say that lack of money forced them to partially close the pool. But they quickly point out that the Gator pool two blocks away is still open, features a water theme park, and has a broader range of water activities. For more information, call 464-7540.

I'm looking for a photo of an A-4D Skyhawk, a one-man jet my husband flew in 1958. Do you know where I can find one?

If you want A-4 Skyhawks, Hampton Roads has them. If you have a camera, you can snap a picture of an A-4 just by strolling to Nauticus in Norfolk. The builders of Nauticus attached one to the outside of the building.

And that's just for starters. Oceana Naval Air Station has one on display at its main gate. Just stop at the gate and tell the guards what you're looking for; they'll point you in the right direction.

I'm not sure whether either of these are actually from the D class of Skyhawks. If you want to make sure that you get a photo of an A-4D suitable for framing, call the still pictures branch of the National Archives at (301)-713-6660.

I'm a wife on the Wasp and we were originally invited on a Tiger cruise and suddenly we were uninvited. Why?

By now you know that the Wasp wives were able to take advantage of a cruise on June 16 and 17. According to officials, though, the wives sailed on a ``guest'' cruise, not a Tiger cruise.

In the past, Tiger cruise has referred to any opportunity for the male relatives of a ship's crew to sail with the ship, usually for a day. Now, of course, wives and daughters may also take the cruises, thus the need for the genericized ``guest'' cruise.

The spokesperson I dealt with was unaware of any instruction dealing with these cruises specifically, but there is one guideline regarding guest cruises that sometimes prevents families from embarking. It was this guideline that prevented the Wasp wives from taking a cruise earlier.

Because of the amount of people involved, the guideline demands that appropriate accommodations be available. Among other things, this means the Wasp needs separate berthing for separate genders. Recently, a group of Marines moved off the Wasp in Morehead City, N.C., thereby assuring that nobody's wife ended up sleeping in the engine room. by CNB
