Captain Warren Howard Royal, 90, passed away June 19, 1995, in Norfolk. A native of Fairview, Pa., he resided in the 9300 block of Grove Ave. for the past 45 years. He was the widower of Myrleen C. Royal.
Mr. Royal was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Officer Training School and served as a Merchant Marine for 40 years, 25 of those years as a Captain. He served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Mr. Royal was a life member of the BPOE Elks Lodge (NU)38; a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge (NU)266; the Ocean View Shrine Club; Knights Templar Grice Commandery - John Walters Royal Arch Chapter (NU)68; a 32nd degree Mason of the Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies; and a 50-year member of the West Gate-Cyrus Masonic Lodge of Detroit, Mich.
Mr. Royal was a member of United Methodist Men of Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion and the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots.
Mr. Royal is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Karen Royal of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Patricia Myers of Meadville, Pa.; daughter, Marcia Royal of Norfolk; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Cy Hulse of Lithonia, Ga.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Herman.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 22, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Frances T. Moody. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight. An Elks service will be held in the funeral home following the funeral service. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave. Memorial donations may be made to the Elks Boy's Camp or the Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospital.
