BERNARD C. BARNES

Bernard Curtis Barnes, 91, of 228 Chestnut St., died June 20, 1995.

A native of Severn, N.C., he was the son of the late William James and Emma Taylor Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. From 1939 to 1951, he was a farmer and ran the Charlie Dukes Farm on Manning Road. He was retired from the Suffolk City Transit Lines after 20 years of service, and from the Service Cab Co., after 12 years of service.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Bessie Futrell Barnes; four loving daughters, Daisy Ann Byrd of Franklin, Janice Collins, Lillian Fowler and Rose Mitchell, all of Suffolk; a half-sister, Inez Lacznar of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Carroll and Thomas Fowler, Joanne Bangley, all of Suffolk, Belinda Wyatt, Gloria Worrell of Franklin, Yvonne Parrish of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kevin Bullock of Windsor, Va., Craig Bullock of Raleigh, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Terri Lynn Thorne, Sherry Bangley, Mark and Brian Fowler, and Justin Parrish.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the R.W Baker and Co. Funeral Home by Dr. Merle Correll and the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O.
