The most obvious change in the Hampton Jazz Festival for 1995 is the addition of a fourth evening, tonight, featuring R&B icons Anita Baker and Frankie Beverly and Maze. The rest of the weekend will include performances by comeback kid Barry White, Ray Charles, Jazz Explosion, George Benson, Gladys Knight, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, Grover Washington Jr. and Earth, Wind & Fire. And, of course, expect one of the happiest crowds of any Hampton Roads music event - many of whose members have been coming for upwards of two decades.
