Nellie Sykes Butts of the 900 block of Wolcott Ave., a retired Naval Supply Center employee, died June 18, 1995, in Norfolk following a lengthy illness and subsequent hospitalization.
She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church and a former church teller. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1946. She was also a member of Margaret Francis (NU)101, OES, PHA, E.V. Kelley Shrine Club, Margaret Johnson Aggressive Tents, Daughters of Norfolk and Norfolk Temple 1A Elks, Daughter Elks.
Survivors include her loving mother, Inez E. Sykes; a son, Emmitt Butts; a stepson, William L. Smith III, all of Norfolk; stepdaughter, Reginia McLean of Virginia Beach; and god-daughter, Renee Eure of Chesapeake; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in New Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Norfolk Temple 1A-Elks, Daughter Elks, will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday at Graves Funeral Home.
