Vernon Lee Whitehurst, 61, of the 2100 block of N. Stowe Road, a retired mechanic, died June 23, 1995, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Whitehurst was born in Virginia Beach. He retired from Triple A. Transmission in Killeen, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Army after 12 years, a veteran of the Korean conflict, and was predeceased by his parents, Alice A. Mosley Whitehurst and Linwood L. Whitehurst and a daughter, Patricia Whitehurst.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Carter of Virginia Beach; a son, Randal Whitehurst of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Dorothy Ellsworth, Margie Stover and Barbara Babb, all of Virginia Beach; four brothers, John Whitehurst and William Whitehurst, both of Virginia Beach, and Frank Whitehurst and Robert Whitehurst, both of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Luke Parrah, Jennifer Parrah and William Whitehurst, all of Las Vegas, Nev., and Benjamin Carter of Virginia Beach; two great-aunts, Lucille Stevens of Virginia Beach and Eva Akiss of Chesapeake; eight nieces and 13 nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Charity Cemetery by the Rev. Robert Stover. Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite. Family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
