Russell Hampton Matthews, 84, of the 24100 block of Marie Court, died June 25, 1995, in Obici Hospital.
Mr. Matthews was born in Bertie County, and was a member of First Baptist Church, N. Main Street, Suffolk. He was retired as a foundry worker from Benthal Machine Co. and was also retired as a shipping clerk from VITEX.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Michael O. Matthews of Virginia Beach, Carol Sue Matthews of Fenton, Mo., and Barry J. Matthews of Suffolk; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and son, Rosa Mae Harrell Matthews and Russell Owen Matthews and by his parents, Missouri Leggett Matthews and Joseph Perry Matthews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson and Col. J.B. Matthews. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times in the home of J.J. Whitley, 12248 Whitfield Park Lane in Windsor.
