Dransfield W. Nichols, 68, of Carrboro, died Saturday at U.N.C. Hospitals. He was a member of the Carrboro United Methodist Church, and was a retired engineer with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery in Crittenden, Va., by the Rev. Earl Tyson, Rev. Beth Hackney and Rev. John Tyson.

Nichols; 3 Daughters-Page Nichols of Kitty Hawk, Rebekah Nichols-Norfolk, VA, Amie Tate-Virginia Beach, VA; 2 Sons-Hunter Nichols-Nashville, TN, James Nichols-Gardiner, MT; 1 Step Daughter-Katherine Tyson-Raleigh; 3 Step Sons-George Tyson Jr.-Houston, TX, M.E. (Jack) Tyson-Richmond, VA, Rev. John Tyson-Fayetteville; 14 Grand Children.
Visitors will be received at the home. Memorials may be made to the Carrboro United Methodist Church. Services by Walkers, Chapel Hill.
