Joseph Elliott ``Red'' Knight, 71, of the 4800 block of Portsmouth Blvd., died July 1, 1995.
He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and had worked at the Norfolk Naval Supply Yard, Shop 72, where he was a supervisor from age 19 until he retired after 38 years of service. He was a member of Simonsdale Civic Club, AARP, NARFE, president of Harbor Fuel Services, Inc., and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Skillman Knight; one daughter, Nell L. Knight of Chesapeake; four sisters, Ruth Rice of Sunbury, N.C., Elizabeth Raby and Virginia Blair, both of Portsmouth, and Janice Williams of Lake Jackson, Tex.; two brothers, Leon P. Knight of Corapeake, N.C., and R. Judson Knight of Virginia Beach; and a grandson, Earl G. Sawyer Jr.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
