VA. TECH GRAD IS NAMED MISS VIRGINIA MISS VIRGINIA BEACH IS FIRST RUNNER-UP.

Andrea Ballengee, a 21-year-old Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Virginia Tech and the runner-up in previous Miss Virginia pageants, won it all on Saturday.

Ballengee, a blonde competing as Miss Hampton-Newport News, performed a dance routine during the talent competition, to beat the other contestants.

Amber Medlin, Miss Virginia Beach, was the first runner-up, winning a $2,600 scholarship, and Lily Michael, Miss Northern Virginia, was second runner-up. She won a $1,400 scholarship.

Third runner-up was Miss Lynchburg Scholarship Dawn Tuttle, who won a $1,050 scholarship, and fourth runner-up was Miss Rappahannock Nicole Jones, who won an $850 scholarship.

Ballengee, who has a degree in political science, hopes to pursue a law degree. Her parents, Maj. James and Pat Ballengee, live in Jupiter, Fla.

Jana Wright, the 23-year-old Miss Pittsylvania County, won the preliminary talent competition Friday night for her rendition of Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6, and Medlin, a graduate of Radford University, won the swimsuit competition.
