David Willett Shoemaker, 35, of Newport News, passed away Saturday, July 1, 1995, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center, Little Rock, Ark. He was there in the process of accomplishing the first part of his stem cell transplant.
Mr. Shoemaker was a resident of the Tidewater area all of his life. He leaves behind his wife, Tracy Peeples Shoemaker. He is also survived by his parents, Richard A. and Carol N. Shoemaker of Rocky Mount, Va.; his brother, Richard A. Shoemaker II of Newport News; two sisters, Jennifer S. Ardis of Lebanon, Tenn., and Stephanie S. Insley of Crofton, Md.; nephews and nieces, Richard A. Shoemaker III, Matthew David Shoemaker, Abigail S. Ardis, Avery E. Ardis, Mary Beth Kisner, Meghan Peeples, Josh-uah Peeples, Tyler Peeples; and two beloved dogs.
As a graduate of Denbigh High School, he had lettered in four sports and earned the position as catcher on the All-District baseball team. David then went on to attend James Madison University after earning a scholarship to Louisburg Junior College for baseball. He had been a sales associate at a local Hampton auto dealership for the past 10 years and was the dealership's top salesperson in 1993.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 1995, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, by Pastor Joe Bryant of Rocky Mount and Theodore ``Bill'' Upton of Newport News. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the David W. Shoemaker Transplant Fund, c/o First Virginia Bank, 397 Denbigh Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23602.
