Police are looking for a 12-year-old girl who has been missing since she was dropped off at Lynnhaven Mall by her mother Saturday afternoon.
Erin M. Burzynski of the 3300 block of Rainier Court was last seen about 2 p.m. Saturday at the mall. She talked to her mother by telephone two hours later.
Since then she has not been heard from or seen despite repeated telephone pages from her mother and friends.
``Erin has not returned any of these pages,'' said Lou Thurston, spokesman for the Virginia Beach Police Department.
Thurston said the girl is 5 feet 4 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing her hair in a bun and dressed in blue jean shorts, a red T-shirt and black, red and white Fila tennis shoes.
Thurston said investigators are concerned about the girl because threats had been made against her. Thurston did not say whether police knew who had threatened the girl.
``Some may think this is a typical runaway,'' Thurston said. ``There are some circumstances that lean in that direction. But there also are the extenuating circumstances of the threats and the fact that she has not been in touch with any of her close friends.''
Anyone with information about the girl's whereabouts is asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 427-0000. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
