The Dare County Board of Commissioners wants more information about a request for another magistrate and holding cells to serve north beach communities.
At Monday's meeting of the board, Kill Devil Hills Commissioner Bill Morris asked for the county board's support for an additional magistrate to handle arrests in beach communities.
Now, officers in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores must transport arrested individuals to Manteo for booking.
Supporters of the idea say the added facility and personnel would enable beach law enforcement agencies to perform their jobs more efficiently.
However, the Dare County panel voted to table the resolution, saying it wanted more information on funding for the proposal, as well as a likely location for an additional holding cell on the beach.
In other action, the board will act at its July 17 meeting on changes in an ordinance governing the Dare County Water Department's billing practices. Also, by a 4-1 vote, the board approved a bid for $138,000 for a computer system for the Rodanthe water facility.
In December, the board approved a $45,000 bid for the system, but that was later rejected because the bid did not meet all specifications. Commissioners Robert V. ``Bobby'' Owens Jr., Clarence Skinner, Doug Langford and Geneva Perry voted for approval. Commissioner Shirley Hassell opposed approval. Commissioners Sammy Smith and Joseph H. ``Mac'' Midgett were absent. by CNB
