Crash test dummies' human-like responses in simulated auto crashes
provide scientiest with data on the effectiveness of the latest
vehicle and safety equipment designs. Many automakers have adapted

infant carriers. BMW soon will offer a two-part air-bag system
(upper right) to increase protection during side-impact crashes. To
increase visibility during the day, GMC and several other auto
makers are adding daytime running lamps.
