Federal regulators promised prompt action Thursday on a National Transportation Safety Board call for new inspections of jet engines like the one that caught fire on a ValuJet airliner in Atlanta last month. Lewis Jordan, president of the Atlanta-based discount airline, pledged cooperation and said his company may move quicker than required.
Fifty-seven passengers and five crew members evacuated the plane June 8 after a Pratt & Whitney JT8D-9A engine failed and a fragment struck a fuel line, starting the fire. The plane was destroyed, a flight attendant suffered burns and some passengers suffered minor injuries. (AP) by CNB
