A state prisoner who pleaded guilty to threatening to kill U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar was sentenced on Thursday to six years and eight months in federal prison.
In March, Sinclair L. Atkins Jr. was charged with five counts of threatening a federal official, threatening by means of an explosive and sending threats through the mail.
In late May, Atkins pleaded guilty to two of the counts. The other three were dropped as part of a plea agreement.
This is the second time that Atkins - who is serving time for state charges in Mecklenburg Correctional Center in Boydton - has been charged with threatening Doumar.
Five years ago, Atkins was convicted of threatening Doumar through the mail and was sentenced to five years in prison. He had filed charges against corrections officials, and Doumar dismissed those charges.
