When filing for municipal elections began Friday in Elizabeth City, the name of Councilwoman Myrtle Rivers led all the rest.
Rivers, a 60-year-old Democratic stalwart on the Town Council, paid her $10 filing fee and signed up to seek another four-year term six minutes after the Pasquotank County Board of Elections opened for filing at noon.
``We expected a rush, but Mrs. Rivers was the only candidate we had all day," said Glenda W. Crane, supervisor of the county elections board. by CNB
