There have been a lot of articles recently about affirmative action.
I am a white woman who served in the military (U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy Reserve) for more than 21 years.
I cannot understand why so many people hate to see veterans getting preference in civil service and other jobs. It is true I didn't go overseas on the front lines into combat, but I was willing to go.
The ones complaining had their chance to go into the military too. When I graduated from high school, I got this from employers - ``We need someone with experience.'' I got sick of trying to find a job, and I enlisted in the Air Force to gain some work experience. I have not been sorry.
While we are on the subject of affirmative action: What about discrimination because of age? Employers can deny it all they want - but it is true.
