CHESAPEAKE SENDS 8 TO VHSL ALL-STAR GAMES

EIGHT OF CHESAPEAKE'S finest high school athletes have been chosen to participate in the Virginia High School League All-Star games at various sites in Newport News and Hampton July 10-13.

The competitions are open only to graduating seniors.

Western Branch High School is represented by four athletes - Nick Ardagna (baseball), Dre Bly (football), Todd Hollowell (football), and Sarah Wolf (softball).

Bly finished up his high-school career by being named the offensive MVP for the Southeastern District as a wide receiver for the highest scoring team in Bruins history. Bly was also selected to the district first-team on defense as a defensive back.

Hollowell was an All-District selection at offensive tackle.

Ardagna, an early signee at Old Dominion University who is spending the summer playing catcher for the Chesapeake Cubs All-Star team, combined brilliant behind-the-plate work with 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Wolf led the Bruins softball team with a .483 batting average and 39 runs scored and was named to the All-District team.

Deep Creek is represented by Andre Gomez (boys soccer), Dontrel Parker (football), and Tamara Sivels (girls basketball).

Gomez was a first-team All-District selection as a midfielder and notched 14 assists as the Hornets co-captain.

Parker, who anchored the offensive line as Deep Creek made a run for the state title, was an All-District selection at tackle.

Sivels was selected as most valuable player in the Southeastern District as a forward/guard, scoring in double figures in every game. A knee injury in the season-ender against Churchland forced Sivels to watch from the bench as three-time defending district champion Deep Creek was eliminated in the first round of the district tournament.

Great Bridge's Marni Magyar rounds out the contingent of players representing Chesapeake. Magyar was named to the All-Southeastern District softball team as a catcher for the third consecutive year. She hit .431 for the Wildcats with 27 RBIs and 32 runs scored, with a .979 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Sites and times for the games are as follows:
