Virginia Beach Police are still seeking information about the
vandals who ransacked the YMCA Family Center at Mount Trashmore a
week ago. Those responsible for the crime armed themselves with a
sledgehammer, a pair of bolt cutters and two crowbars and destroyed
property and equipment at the non-profit center on South Boulevard.
Chemicals used to treat swimming pool water also had been dumped in
the pool pumping room, forcing YMCA officials to close the facility
last Monday while hazard materials experts cleaned up the mess.
Medical technicians treated three police officers and two evidence
technicians who were affected by the chemicals. Anyone with any
information about the vandalism is asked to call Virginia Beach
Crime Solvers. Callers do not have to give their names and do not
have to testify in court to collect a reward. The number is
427-0000.
