Malachi Blanchard, of the 200 block of Grant St., a retired boilermaker, died July 14, 1995.
Mr. Blanchard was born in Edenton, N.C. He retired from the naval shipyard in Portsmouth after 31 years, was a member of First Baptist Church, Crestwood, a deacon and a member of Silver Strands Senior Citizens Club and Prince Hall Lodge 197 South Hill Masonics.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Blanchard Lowery, and a son-in-law, John S. Lowery I, both of Virginia Beach; his mother, Mary Mabins; four sisters, Cora Blanchard of Chicago, Beatrice Goodwin and Alberta Townes, both of Connecticut, and Clarine Allen of Chesapeake; two brothers, William H. Blanchard and John H. Blanchard, both of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Sheila Lowery of Alexandria, Va., and Pamela Lowery and John Lowery II, both of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Crestwood in Chesapeake by the Rev. Willie L. Samuels. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Arrangements by Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home.
