Ottis Benton (O. B.) Jones, 52, of Virginia Beach, president of Fife & Jones Surveyors, Inc., died July 15, 1995, of cancer. Mr. Jones was born in Mize, Miss. and raised in Florida.
LCDR. Jones retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1983. He was awarded several military awards for service in Vietnam including the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, and the Purple Heart.
After his retirement, Mr. Jones held several management positions in the Maritime Industry. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS), and a member of the Propeller Club. Mr. Jones held a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jane M. Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Ann and Paul Szejk of Virginia Beach; a son and his companion, Michael B. Jones and Tonja Brothers of Virginia Beach; his mother, Sallie Turner Jones of Williston, Fla.; a sister, Carole J. Hatfield of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Daniel F. Jones of Williston, Fla.; a father-in-law, Bill Wettje of New York; brothers-in-law, James and Fred Risley of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Emily Rose and Benton Joseph Szejk; nine nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and good friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 1995 in Messiah Lutheran Church, 4136 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, by Pastor Frederick Guy. There will be a visitation Wednesday evening July 19, from 7 to 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia, 5825 Arrowhead Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, will be handling the arrangements.
