Esther Marie Smith Dawson of the 3300 block of Dietz Dr., died Sunday, July 16, 1995, at home.
Mrs. Dawson was born in Norfolk, Va. She was the widow of Leroy Dawson Sr. and a member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church. She retired from Norfolk State University.
Survivors include four daughters, Queen E. Dawson Wiggins, Lula M. Dawson Skinner, A. Carolyn Dawson-Johnson, and Gwen V. Dawson Blount, all of Chesapeake, Va; three sons, Leroy Dawson Jr. of Frederick, Md., Willie L. Dawson of Baltimore, Md., and John H. Dawson of Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Rosa Freeman, of Vanceboro, N.C., Fannie Jenkins, of Landover, Md., Mary Zollicoffer of Chesapeake, Va., and Dora Killins of Detroit, Mi.; two brothers, Stanley Smith of Washington, D.C., and Willie Smith of New Bern, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Freeman and James Dawson, both of Vanceboro, N.C.; an aunt-in-law, Rosa Ford of Vanceboro, N.C.; a devoted cousin, Lowdusty Boone, of Portsmouth, Va.; 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, sons and daughters-in-law, cousins, and friends.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday, July 20, 1995, at 11:00 a.m. at Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, 7036 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk, Va., by the Rev. Cedric Kirkland-Harris. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Va. The family will receive friends at 2327 Skipjack Lane, Chesapeake, Va., and will assemble there at 9:45 a.m. Thursday for the funeral procession to the church.
