John Wesley Smith Jr., 55, of the 1000 block of Stanley Road, died July 17, 1995, in Suffolk.
He was a native of Portsmouth and was employed as a concrete mason. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia H. Smith; his mother, Lola Patterson Bennington of Portsmouth; one daughter, Felicia A. Young of Newport News; two sisters, Patsy Powell and Lola Fay Smith, both of Chesapeake; one brother, Francis P. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Brittany and Jamie Young.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Simonsdale Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack Ettershank and the Rev. T.A. Powell. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
